How we built a bespoke building company's website with the same precision they bring to a renovation, and made sure Google could actually find it
Some businesses are defined by the quality of their finish. Hynds & Davis Bespoke Builders are one of them, a small, skilled team delivering full renovations, extensions and interior work across Colchester and Essex, all under one roof, to a standard most trades websites do very little to reflect.
The Problem: Premium Work, Generic Template Risk
Hynds & Davis needed a website that actually looked and felt like the work they do. Full property renovations, bespoke carpentry, and Amtico flooring finished to a genuinely high standard deserve a site built with the same level of care, not a generic trades template with a logo swapped in and a stock photo of a hard hat on the homepage.
The challenge was achieving that premium, image-led feel without sacrificing what actually gets a small local business found. Plenty of beautiful trade websites exist that are invisible on Google, all design, no foundation. Plenty of well-optimised trade websites exist that look like every other builder's site in the country. Hynds & Davis needed both, done properly, at the same time.
The Solution: Bespoke Build, Technical SEO Baked In From the Start
We designed and built the site entirely from scratch using Vite, TypeScript, SCSS and HTML, no templates, no page builders, no shortcuts. Every part of the site, from the layout to the underlying code, was written specifically for Hynds & Davis.
An Image-Led Gallery, Built to Be Found
The centrepiece of the site is a visual project gallery showcasing their actual work, full renovations, panelling, herringbone Amtico flooring, and more. Rather than treating this as just a design feature, we built it as a technical asset too, with locally relevant metadata and genuinely descriptive image content, so every project image is doing real work for local search visibility, not just sitting there looking good.
SEO Built Into the Architecture, Not Bolted On Afterwards
Our approach to SEO here was deliberate. Rather than stuffing the visible, customer-facing content with keywords in a way that would compromise the clean, premium feel of the design, we focused the SEO strategy on the underlying technical architecture instead: canonical URLs, an XML sitemap, and properly structured metadata throughout.
This matters because it means the site can look exactly as considered and image-led as Hynds & Davis's actual work, while still giving search engines everything they need to understand, index and rank it properly. Good technical SEO shouldn't cost a business its design.
The Result: Fast, Professional, and Already Confirmed Discoverable
The finished site gives Hynds & Davis a fast, genuinely professional digital presence and a fully crawlable portfolio of their work, built to load quickly and represent the business properly from the first visit.
Following launch, we confirmed that Googlebot successfully accessed the site's sitemap, homepage and dedicated project gallery, verifying that the core content is fully discoverable, not just present, but genuinely indexable and ready to be found.
This gives Hynds & Davis a measurable technical SEO foundation, a proper base from which organic visibility across Colchester and Essex can now be tracked, monitored and built on over time, rather than hoping a nice looking website will somehow get found on its own.
Why This Approach Matters
A lot of small trade businesses are told they have to choose: a site that looks premium, or a site that's built to be found. Hynds & Davis is proof that's a false choice. The two things aren't in tension when the technical foundations are built properly from day one, canonical URLs, sitemaps, structured metadata, rather than treated as an afterthought once the design is finished.
The result is a website that does justice to the quality of a Hynds & Davis renovation, and gives Google every reason to actually show it to the people searching for exactly that kind of work across Colchester and Essex.
